My Mother, The Princess of the Sea

I'm glad I took this picture,
Before you left us,
Oh princess of the sea;
For you were truly happy,
Going into the depths of the sea,
To see the corals bloom,
As the fishes swam around you.

You wanted to see them all,
Every creature that called the sea their home;
All the corals, all the fishes,
All the turtles, all the eels,
All the sharks you could name;
To show them all of the love,
You have shown to me.

Your love for the ocean,
Was apparent for all to see.
You told me all about them,
All these places you dreamed of diving,
All the spots you had marked X,
With that big, caring heart you carried.

You made me feel like an adult,
And you as the child,
With the biggest of dreams,
Wishing you could protect the ocean,
Protect all the creatures of the sea.

With all the initiatives you've supported,
Hoping to end the cruelty thrown towards the sea,
Your determination could be heard from upon the boat,
Across the sea, far past the coastal shore,
As a battle cry for the world to heed,
"You will taint the sea no more,
For I am here to protect it!"

Even though your dreams,
You could not live to see,
I knew you were happy,
With what you have seen.
It was all in your smile,
That last smile I saw across your face,
Before you went for one final dive.

I know your heart is at peace,
As you donned a tee,
"I lost my heart to the ocean";
A befitting end for a daughter of the sea,
To die amongst the creatures you hold so dear.

May all the fishes you have seen,
And all those you have yet to see,
Guide you up the Stairway to Heaven,
As the Princess of the Sea,
You were meant to be.

    I am in disbelief and saddened by your mum's untimely demise. Our bantering last Friday afternoon, after our class is vividly in my mind. May Allah shower His blessings upon her, and may He place her amongst the righteous. Your mum will be greatly missed and we are sorry for your loss.
