The Generations To Come

We were taught to be individuals
We were taught to seek information
We were taught to like and share.

And yet, just like you,
And the predecessors before you,
We continue to be stereotyped
By the flaws you take notice of.

Know that,
This is all thanks to you.
Your greatness, your inabilities,
You, who provided the platforms
We utilise;
Your literature,
Your songs,
Your advertisements,

We were told to be romantic,
We were told to come as we are,
We were told to think different,

    Just like you,
We grew up in our own times,
And just like you,
We will rise against the crushing waves,
And find the sanctuary we’ve been yearning for.

We can be criticised,
We can be belittled,
We can be bullied,

But inevitably,
We will be the crazy ones
Who will rage against the machine
And stand for the art we believe in.

Though it may not be all of us,
Just like the generations past,
Some of us will step up to the plate
And make the difference
That will shake the very foundations of the earth.
